I have been doing very little to my Sport Convert lately. I did replace the front caliper with a Brembo 4 Piston unit, which is held to the stock caliper mounting lugs with a nifty magnesium bracket. Other than that, the bike just doesn't need much work. I could invent a reason to work on it, but it does what I want, it gets me to work, it doesn't leak oil on my pants, and it doesn't leave me stranded. To get ready for winter, I pulled the Lemans pegs and brake lever in favor of the stock floor boards, etc. I also pulled the low bars for some more touring oriented ones. My back and neck are such that I cannot ride a bike in an upright position without a windshield. If I do I end up with major back spasms. I was able to find a great "Harley police" style windshield from National Cycle that bolts right onto the stock Guzzi fairing mounts. I can't prove it, but it seems that when Guzzi developed the Convert, the looked at the hardware on Harleys and made some of the parts dimensionally quite similar. The windshield I bought was for a Harley, and it bolted right up. I have in the past needed some side stand hardware, and Harley stuff was also the right size, of course this is only for the Convert side stand. On the racing front, I have somethings to report. Dano Meisner is building a new 992cc motor for next year and I would expect him to do a lot better in WERA Vintage racing with that. Dano had a stroke of bad luck near the end of last season, he had a street bike accident and broke his collar bone, he had to miss the WERA GNF, better luck next year Dano. Dave Fine expects to take delivery of an 1100 Sport soon and I expect we will be cheering him on at AHRMA Battle of The Twins events in 1995. At first Dave will race the bike mostly stock except for a light weight free flow exhaust system. Later on I expect he will work on the motor some. I have talked to Manfred, and he already has in stock long stroke cranks as well as big bore kits that would take the 1100 (really 1064) out to 1162 or bigger. That together with a transcontinental clutch would really make Daves Sport run! As far as my own race effort goes, I have looked into buying a couple of bikes, but as of yet none has jumped out and said buy me! I will stay on hiatus until one does.
